The Eight Limbs of Yoga as a Compass for the World of Work
A systemic path of development for more clarity, self-leadership, and a sustainable company culture.
YOGAMETHODEN
Our society is shaped by speed, sensory overload, and a constant drive for “more.” The world of work reflects that: rapid change, uncertainty, pressure to perform. At the same time, people today are searching for meaning, balance, and a fulfilling place in life. Companies, meanwhile, are already struggling to attract and retain employees. As baby boomers leave the workforce over the coming years, this shift in values will intensify further: work is no longer, by a long way, the top priority that everything else bends around. Generation after generation, the desire grows for balance, self-determination, and a good life beyond the hamster wheel.
Burnout has become a widespread condition. Mindfulness and resilience have already found their way into many companies, but they often remain isolated measures. To keep succeeding in the future, companies need more: a culture in which people are at the center — as individuals, not just as a resource. Where appreciation, connection, and meaning can actually be experienced, people also become willing to contribute their energy and creativity.
My Vision
I want to help shape a world of work carried by respect, openness, fairness, a conscious use of resources, and genuine flexibility. A culture in which people gain clarity, make better decisions, and find fulfillment through self-knowledge, mindfulness, and solution-oriented thinking.
To me, sustainable development isn't based on methods or tools alone. It begins within — with the ability to understand yourself, to work with your own patterns, and to consciously shape your own thinking. Every change, whether individual or organizational, is rooted here.
My Approach
When I founded the mindshift in 2019, after my coaching training, I was looking for a method that goes deeper than classic tools and models. I found it during my yoga teacher training: the eight-limbed path according to Patanjali.
For more than 2,000 years, this path has offered guidance to people wanting to develop clarity, freedom, and inner strength. That is exactly what's often missing in the world of work today: not expertise, but the ability to deal constructively with fear, ego, ignorance, and attachment.
That's why I use the eight-limbed path as a guide in business — for coaching, training, and organizational development. It's not an esoteric relic, but a systemic path of development. It offers:
tools for self-leadership; an ethical map for sustainable business practice; and a philosophy that provides orientation when complexity, speed, and uncertainty take over.
In this way, an approach thousands of years old becomes a modern key to today's challenges.
Yoga Beyond the Mat
Many people associate yoga with twisting into shapes on a mat, with exercise or relaxation. But that's only a small part of the picture. In its original sense, yoga means “union” — the union with yourself, with others, and with something greater.
The physical practice is just one building block. The sutras — short, concise guiding principles — describe eight dimensions of yoga that go far beyond the physical. Each of these dimensions helps us gain clarity, release inner blockages, and come into balance.
That makes yoga not just a practice for greater flexibility, but a guide for conscious living and working. This potential becomes especially visible in a business context: people learn to connect — with themselves, with their teams, and with their company's goals.
Conclusion: An Ancient Path for the Future of Work
The challenges of today's world of work — from the shortage of skilled workers to the search for meaning to overload — can't be solved with new tools or methods alone. A change of perspective is needed. The eight-limbed path offers exactly that: a timeless source of orientation that enriches modern leadership, teamwork, and organizational development, and makes sustainable change possible.
The future of work doesn't lie in even more speed, but in depth, clarity, and connection.
And perhaps it begins right here — with the question: how could the eight-limbed path offer you, your team, or your company new orientation?
👉 Let's start a conversation — I look forward to the exchange.
